Wood Wednesday

This how Dennis and I have been spending our Wednesdays. Chain-sawing, gathering, stacking, hauling, splitting and stacking again. Should be enough for this winter and part of the next winter. Let it snow.

Ice On The Lake

There was a thin layer of ice over the middle of the lake this morning. It was 21 degrees at 6AM. But it turned out to be a beautiful day.

Ordered The Carpeting

We didn't meet the November 1st move-in date but things are moving along. We probably won't be moving by December 1st either, the carpeting probably will be installed sometime that week. Maybe just, maybe we can move our stuff the weekend of 5th and 6th.

The flu bug was moving thru the house this past week.

Close Call

Isn't the fawn cute!! The little fawn almost lost it's life when Dennis was chain sawing up some logs. He was just inches from the little deer when he noticed it lying there sleeping. As the weather tries to warm up we have seen lots of new life.

Seven More Days

The Greenwood Monster will be turned off in seven days if the weather stays warm. That is the plan for now. The wood burner has been a nightmare. It is nothing like I thought it would be, it is one big dirty mess. After many hours of tweaking and adding numerous contraptions the thing finally works. It was a big mistake.

The Lake Opened Up

We could see open water across the lake yesterday morning and in the afternoon the lake was open out in front. Our ice skating rink is floating way across the lake. An eagle was sitting on the ice for a short while and there are five loons already swimming in the lake as well as three ducks. Today the lake is wide open and smooth as glass.

Were You Doing Something Unsafe?

Always remember to where personal protective equipment when performing wood chopping tasks.

Weather

Everything depends on the weather. We are at the 50th day of sub-zero temperatures here, it might be more but I'm done counting. We have definitely had enough of cold temperatures. It effects everything your mood, how much you eat and how much work gets done, etc.

Suffering from a severe case of Cabin Fever.

Yesterday

January 25 was our one year anniversary of living on the Edge of the Grid. It seems much longer than one year. It was cold when we got here and its still cold. -20F in the morning with wind chills of -30F. Tomorrow is its suppose to warm up, that means above 0.

We got a lot done in the past year. A new septic system, a gigantic garage which is full, a wood burner and the addition is started. The lake level came up in the spring and went back down by the end of summer. We planted grass in the front and started a small garden. Gathered up some wood and split it but its to wet to use this year. Cleaned up and threw away lot of stuff. Its starting to look nice.

Friday the crew was here for about a hour and a half maybe less and they just left, they never came back. And with the cold weather today we knew they wouldn't be here today. They probably won't be back until Wednesday. The bath tub for upstairs arrived on Friday and is sitting in the garage behind my car. We didn't know where else to put it.

Maybe Phase 2 will be finished this year and we can go on to Phase 3.
